Elevator awarded £7m Business Gateway contract to support North East businesses over the next five years

Elevator – Scotland’s leading social enterprise for work on entrepreneurship, enterprise and employability – will continue to deliver the Business Gateway service for Aberdeenshire and Aberdeen City councils from April.

Elevator, based at Aberdeen Energy Park, has been delivering economic development activities to the local business community on behalf of the local councils for 30 years.

The award of the contract comes at a time of great investment across the region and is seen as playing an important part in the delivery of the Regional Economic Strategy.

The new contract shows the strength of both councils’ commitment to supporting local business, and the investment is expected to bring employment and improvement benefits for the local economy. The region already has a strong start-up culture and it is important to build on this so that new businesses are able to invest in the area and sell their goods and services across the globe.

Power up – High speed internet provider CityFibre installing ultra-fast broadband infrastructure at Energy Park

High speed internet provider CityFibre has installed new fibre broadband infrastructure at Aberdeen Energy Park, making the park one of the first locations in the City of Aberdeen to have this high speed capability.

CityFibre has feed the park with a cable containing 144 individual fibres, with capacity to install further cables in the future as required. This new infrastructure is capable of providing occupiers on the park with connectivity of up to 1 gigabit.

AIM-listed CityFibre, which designs, builds, owns and operates fibre optic infrastructure in UK towns and cities, teamed up with leading national internet service provider IBF, to deploy the gigabit-capable dark fibre broadband network, which will make Aberdeen Scotland’s first gigabit city.

Speaking on behalf of the parks’ owner, Moorfield Real Estate Fund III, Mark Holmes from Moorfield Group said: “We are very excited about this project, which gives Energy Park occupiers access to state-of-the-art network infrastructure, far exceeding previous capabilities.

Aberdeen Energy Park expansion land secures planning consent to deliver office, industrial & warehouse uses

Aberdeen City Council has recently approved a Section 42 application, lodged by Buccmoor LP, to amend the use consent, associated with expansion land at Aberdeen Energy Park, Bridge of Don.

The expansion land at the Energy Park already benefits from Planning Permission in Principle (PPiP) to deliver 48,000 sq m (500,000 sq ft) of industrial, office and warehouse accommodation.

The amendment today means that the expansion land can accommodate use Classes 4, 5 and 6, with Class 6 use (storage or distribution) now unrestricted.

Speaking on behalf of Buccmoor LP, Steph Rennie, associate of Buccleuch Property said:

“With the benefit of this consent, we can now fully demonstrate to the market that the expansion land at Aberdeen Energy Park will accommodate office, industrial and distribution warehousing across Use Classes 4, 5 and 6.

“The quality environment of the park remains a key feature and we look forward to delivering bespoke solutions to occupiers, be it through site sales or bespoke development.”

HRH The Duke of York visits Elevator Hub at Energy Park

His Royal Highness The Duke of York met business leaders and entrepreneurs from throughout the North and North-east when he recently visited social enterprise Elevator.

His Royal Highness, who works to promote economic growth and skilled job creation in the UK, toured the £1million hub at Bridge of Don, which was set up to help facilitate the start-up and growth of new and existing businesses in Aberdeen city and shire.

During his visit, the Duke of York was introduced to the current cohort of participants of Elevator’s Accelerator Programme, which is for ambitious early-stage business owners and teams seeking to improve their business offering, growth and investment potential at an accelerated rate.

He also met key representatives of the business community, including Maggie McGinlay of Scottish Enterprise; Pat Machray of Opportunity North East (ONE); Richard Sweetnam, Head of Economic Development, Aberdeen City Council, and Moray Barber, Senior Partner at KPMG. He also met Business Gateway staff and representatives of The Prince’s Trust Get Into programme, a suite of sector specific employability programmes that help young people aged 16-25, and are not in employment, education or training into work.

Buccmoor sells development site at Aberdeen Energy Park

New facility set to deliver major business expansion for Hydro Group plc

Buccleuch Property and Moorfield Group (Buccmoor LP) has announced the sale of 0.63 acres of development land at Aberdeen Energy Park to existing occupier, Hydro Group plc.

The site sale has enabled Hydro Group, which designs and manufacturers underwater cables and connectors for subsea, underwater, topside and onshore applications, to expand operations and develop a brand new 13,700 sq ft bespoke workshop, with mezzanine deck.

This will be used to install the company’s new armouring line and also provide a pressure testing area, together with additional storage. This new space is in addition to the 45,500 sq ft already occupied at the park.

This development follows on from the company’s £300,000 investment last year in the advanced armour line, which extended Hydro Group’s product capabilities, enabling the company to offer cable products to improve and support subsea operations.

 Doug Whyte, Hydro Group Managing Director, said:

“The new facility and additional space was required in order to diversify and develop our business. The new facility has been a significant investment in the future of our company here at Aberdeen Energy Park and has opened up new business opportunities.

“We are now able to manufacture mechanically protected cables which can withstand higher stresses in subsea and defence operations and the extra space means that we can also offer greater capacity in size and overall lengths.

Hydro Group, an Energy Park occupier since 2008, is currently one of a very small number of companies in the UK to offer this technology.
